Cape Verde - Praïa - 2008
Every image tells a story and questions our apprehension of the “Other.”
This captivating project is the work of students from the Lycée D’Achade Grande in Praïa, Cape Verde, and students from de Luxembourgish Lycée Technique des Arts et Métiers. The photographs taken by these students unveil themselves as visions of shared concerns expressed through an incredibly personal language; visions that are equally reflective of universal and personal truths and identities. While every photograph only gives the viewer a single glimpse of a brief moment in time, it does speak volumes about the social realities that differentiate and bind us at all times.
Every photo simultaneously bathes in the subjective proximity of its author and the objective detachment of its spectator: every image tells a story and questions our apprehension of the “Other.” And the deeper you are willing to engage in this dialogue, the more the “Other” eventually becomes so very similar – if not the same.
