It all started when…

In 2008, Joseph Tomassini, a photographer and teacher working in Luxembourg launched the photographic project called "Le Chemin de L’ecole" (engl: The Journey To School) with the simple idea of giving students around the world a chance to document their lives, more specifically their way to school. This way, no matter where children are from, is something that the lucky among them share everyday. This approach not only conveys a large number of aspects of how and where these students live, but as Joseph had rightly presumed, also allows for deep insights into who they are and how they perceive the world around them. In 2014, after having successfully accomplished numerous such projects in different countries, Joseph, together with his friend Raymond, created a non-profit organization with the same name in order to promote these projects more effectively.

Since then, his idea has brought together students from all around the world – each of them telling their unique stories with the help of a camera. The project underlines the meaning and importance of a quality education, and the nourishing role it plays in the development of our human societies. Yet beyond a mere recognition of the value and power of education, the ultimate objective is to recognize and celebrate the full worth and beauty of our cultural and personal differences, as well as all the similarities, that are revealed through this intimate look into the students’ lives.
